A Legacy of Architecture and Tradition.

Set in the heart of downtown Detroit, The Heath's wedding at the Detroit Athletic Club unfolded with a sense of tradition, architectural beauty, and quiet atmosphere. From portraits framed by the club’s historic interiors to the celebration that followed, the day moved with an ease that felt both timeless and deeply personal. With its historic character, refined spaces, and iconic presence in the city, the Detroit Athletic Club offered a remarkable setting for a wedding shaped by intention, emotion, and story.

Founded in 1887, the Detroit Athletic Club has long been woven into the story of Detroit itself. The clubhouse that stands today, designed by Albert Kahn and opened in 1915, reflects a legacy of craftsmanship shaped by the city’s industrial rise and enduring architectural tradition. With Renaissance-inspired interiors, historic detail, and a presence rooted in downtown Detroit, the club carries a sense of continuity that lends depth and character to celebrations held within its walls.

slow motion storytelling
The hours leading into the ceremony unfolded with a quieter rhythm, and moments of anticipation shared on both sides of the day. From heirloom touches and finishing gestures to portraits made within the club’s historic interiors, getting ready carried a natural sense of stillness before the celebration unfolded.
These early hours often carry some of the most understated moments of a wedding day, and this part of the story was no exception.
portraiture & Place
Having traveled in from Boston to marry in Detroit, Ben and Peyton approached portraits with a clear sense of place from the start, with the rooftop and views toward Ford Field among their first requests for the day. Rather than treating portraits as something overly directed, they wanted space to enjoy the moment together, allowing these images to feel relaxed, natural, and rooted in the experience of being there. From the city skyline to the historic interiors of the Detroit Athletic Club, the portrait portion of the day carried both a personal connection to place and the architectural character that drew them to Detroit in the first place.

cocktail hour at the club
While guests greeted one another over cocktails, a familial energy took root. Reconnecting with friends and family sharing in the joy of Ben + Peyton's celebration, a glance at the past became part of the conversation. Observing the generations that came together before them, a deep sense of tradition and meaning became the center point.
Mazel Tov!
With the formalities behind them, the evening settled into a renewed energy. Guests gathered for the Hora, danced before dinner and danced after, all in concert with the occasion that gathered them in the first place.
